University of Iowa Career Leadership Academy Virtual Event

During the Virtual Event, CLA students will be able to interact with employers and alumni volunteers about what leadership looks like across various fields (scroll down to see the list of participating alumni).

Discussion Topics

• Professionalism, Etiquette & Interviewing
  Ever want to know what the professional expectations of a new employee are? Do you know how to demonstrate professional etiquette in the work place? This chat room will cover questions like these as well as topics such as networking and interviewing. Participants will also learn more about what to expect at professional events, such as a job interview, company party, or client meeting. This chat room is reserved for CLA PART 2 Students from 6:30-7:30pm and open to all students from 7:30-8:00pm. 
• What Employers Want
  Want to know more about the skills employers crave? This chat room will focus on discussing the skills and attributes that companies seek in new hires. You’ll also learn about ways to gain these skills at college and in the real world.
• Leadership Styles
  What style of leadership do you prefer? Participants in this chat room will discuss the typical leadership behaviors they like to see at work from both employers and employees.

• Job Searching Advice
  Want to get an edge searching for jobs that fit your career interests? This chat room will focus on tips employers have for college students when they engage in job searching. Explore the do’s and don’ts for successful job searches.
• Resumes
  Looking for some tips to help your Resume stand out? This chat room will focus on sharing advice and resources to help your professional resume be the best that it can be.
