The Russell House University Union is a 200,000 square foot student union facility at the University of South Carolina-Columbia campus.  In addition to Carolina Dining, Barnes and Noble University Bookstore, Student Postal Services, Carolina Card, Golden Spur Game Room and various offices within the Division of Student Affairs, the facility features a 7,000 square foot multipurpose ballroom; 300 seat theater, 12 meeting rooms, and 4 outdoor spaces for use by the university community.  Approximately 14,000 patrons visit the Russell House and its various services daily, and over 9,000 reservations and events are executed annually. 

Undergraduate interns will develop expertise in facility and event management.  By working on projects in the Events Services, Russell House Operations and Programming (Gamecock Entertainment) areas, interns will leave with comprehensive experience as it relates to operating a large-scale activity and entertainment center.  Competencies include facility management; procedure development and execution; security/risk assessment; event planning and calendaring; collaboration with internal colleagues and clients; and interpretation of policy and procedure as it applies to use of a facility, event or program.  In addition to fulfilling various tasks, Russell House interns will lead a project that will be completed throughout the duration of the experience (i.e. social media strategy development, Event and Information position development and operating plans for Russell Underground, etc.).
