About
The Airports Authority police department is one of the largest in the Northern Virginia area, and is comprised of 223 sworn officers, 33 Traffic Control Officers, and 9 civilian administrative personnel. Our Virginia- certified police officers enforce Airports Authority regulations, the county codes of Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun, and the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. We work closely with our federal and local law enforcement partners, to include the assignment of sworn personnel to regional federal task forces. We enjoy strong ties to our neighboring agencies in the spirit of providing mutual support when needed.
In response to the needs of the traveling community, we also have 5 mobile Safety Service Patrol personnel who provide assistance to motorists along the Dulles Toll Road. These personnel also assist at accident scenes by directing traffic in order to alleviate congestion.
The airports serve more than 46 million passengers annually. Our work brings us into contact with a diverse group of people. These patrons range from vacationing families to traveling government officials, as well as an internal community of service employees and airline tenants.
