Welcome to the Times Higher Education 2018 University of the Year for Teaching Quality. Established in 1872 as the first university institution in Wales, Aberystwyth has long enjoyed a reputation as a friendly university closely integrated with the local community. Aberystwyth is a top 40 UK university according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-17. In the 2016 QS World University Rankings by Subject, Aberystwyth was listed as one of the top 100 universities in the world for the study of Geography, Politics and International Studies. Agriculture and Forestry featured in the top 150 worldwide, with Environmental Science in the top 300. Aberystwyth is 1st in Wales and top 5 in the UK for student satisfaction (NSS 2017). Aberystwyth graduates enjoy an employment rate which is a percentage point above the average for the sector (DHLE 2017).
