About

Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) is a PRIVATELY OWNED hospital located in Rhode Island, the beautiful Ocean State - and close to all of New England's recreational offerings. OSVS is a 26,000sf building, with a very busy emergency service and specialists in internal medicine, surgery, radiology, critical care, neurology, cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, avian/exotics, and clinical pathology. The hospital has a broad referral base of over 100 hospitals, including those in RI, southern MA and eastern CT.
There are over twenty experienced emergency doctors who work a combination of day, swing and night shifts, and play an important role in training interns. There is a well established internship program, surgery and emergency/critical care residency programs as well. The support staff is highly trained and capable of working with critical patients.
Equipment in the hospital includes digital radiography, ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, fluoroscopy, laparoscopy, endoscopy, mechanical ventilation, and extensive monitoring equipment including telemetric EKG. There are continuing education programs in place for referring veterinarians and technicians, as well as in house CE for doctors and technicians and an in-house tech training program.
Our sister hospital, Bay State Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Services is located in Swansea, Massachusetts. This is a well-equipped 24/7 emergency hospital with full time surgery and internal medicine specialty services. Some of our emergency clinicians split their time between the two hospitals.

This is an exceptional hospital, with a high standard of care, and tremendous opportunities for learning and growth in a collegial and fun environment. We have all of the benefits of a large hospital, with the family-feel of a small, privately owned hospital. Doctors move here for the job, or an internship or residency, and often choose to stay because of the medicine, the friends, and all that Rhode Island has to offer.
