About the UConn School of Pharmacy
Welcome! Prepare to lead in the ever changing health care arena. Our legacy is long, 98 years, and ongoing student success has always been our best indicator of quality.
Our program explores the wide variety of paths and specialties available to Pharm.D. graduates today and gives you the confidence to select the path that is right for you.
As a student you will learn real-world practical skills during your introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences because you will be working with pharmacists at practice sites of all kinds. Our students explore and go into a wide variety of careers including community pharmacy, urban health, hospital pharmacy including sub specialities, the pharmaceutical industry, government, and many other specialty fields. Nearly half of each graduating class chooses a residency or fellowship in order to pursue a pharmacy specialty such as pediatric, emergency, geriatric, or oncology pharmacy.

Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), Program
UConn's School of Pharmacy is ranked in the top 25% of U.S. pharmacy schools and #1 in New England (U.S. News & World Report - 2021).
Our 4-year professional program confers a B.S. in Pharmacy Studies/Pharm.D. degree combination. Admission is holistic and based upon: GPA in required pre-professional courses; leadership, service, and work experience; critical thinking and written communication appraisal; letters of recommendation; and interview. PCAT scores are not required or considered.
Co-curricular tracks such as LEADERS, Pediatrics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Urban Services, and dual-degree programs, study abroad and other formal/informal, student-centered experiences and enrichment opportunities help to customize individualized learning experiences
In 2022 over 92% of Pharm.D Students graduated on time and 98% of students indicated employment after graduation.
Many graduates pursue active residency placement at prominent learning healthcare institutions such as: Hartford Hospital, Yale, Massachusetts General Hospital, the Veteran's Administration, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, UConn Health, and other prestigious sites nationwide. In 2022 we had a post graduate year-one (PGY1) match rate of 85% (students matching to desired ASHP accredited residencies) and PGY2 match rate of 89%. UConn is within the top highest match rates in the nation.
New England based students (except RI), the UConn School of Pharmacy offers a discounted New England tuition rate.

Interested in a Ph.D. or Pharm.D. focus in Pharmaceutical Sciences?
Within the pharmaceutical sciences our faculty are experts in the medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, and pharmacology/toxicology fields; several hold national and international offices and recognitions. They are also recognized for drug development and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Whether in the Ph.D. program or Pharmaceutical Sciences specialty track, our facility and labs are state of the art places to learn how pharmaceuticals are made and how research is done. Opportunities to do current research with faculty are varied and numerous.
Pharmacy students interested in preparing for careers in research or the pharmaceutical industry can get involved in many different kinds of investigations.
Many of our students who choose to engage in research have presented at national conferences or have been published in industry journals.

Small School - Big University In the Heart of New England
The School of Pharmacy is located on the beautiful Storrs campus of the University of Connecticut, the leading public university in New England - among the top 25 in the nation. The campus is located in northeast Connecticut with easy access to the shoreline (1 hour), Boston (1.5 hours), Providence (1 hour), Hartford (45 mins) and New York City (3 hours).
The Pharmacy-Biology Building, a state-of-the-art research facility, is located in the center of the University Science Quadrangle, facilitating inter-disciplinary collaborations. Our world-class faculty, cutting edge research, and innovative graduate and professional programs position the School of Pharmacy as one of the top choices for pharmacy education in the United States. Students say they feel prepared to enter the workforce.

The location of the UConn allows students to enjoy the cultural, athletic, and social activities in nearby cities. Students may also add to their classroom experiences by participating in a number of university and pharmacy-related clubs and organizations. Music, theatre and sport offerings are rich and are easily available on campus through the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, the von der Mehden Recital Hall, the William Benton Museum of Art, and our many sporting arenas.
