About

Yale School of Public Health is a CEPH accredited school which offers a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.), a Master of Science (M.S.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

The School of Public Health at Yale University provides leadership to protect and improve the health of the public. Through innovative education, research, policy analysis and practice that draws upon interdisciplinary scholarship from across the graduate and professional programs at Yale, the school serves local, national and international communities with its knowledge and expertise. We foster health equity, social justice and respectful discourse to enrich our teaching and scholarship, as well as empower the communities that we serve.

The M.P.H. program spans seven academic departments:

  • Biostatistics,
  • Chronic Disease Epidemiology
  • Environmental Health Sciences
  • Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases
  • Healthcare Management
  • Health Policy
  • Social & Behavioral Sciences

Students are then able to add a concentration including:

  • Global Health
  • Regulatory Affairs
  • Public Health Modeling
  • Climate Change and Health
  • US Health and Justice

The Yale School of Public Health M.P.H. also offers joint degree programs with the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Physician’s Associate, Management, Law, Divinity, Forestry & Environmental Studies, the MacMillan Center and the International & Development Economics Program in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

M.P.H. students spend two years in residence with the exception of Advanced Professional M.P.H. students who earn their degree in eleven months and the Executive MPH which is instructed through a hybrid online program with on campus residencies.

The M.S. program at YSPH is offered in

  • Biostatistics
  • Chronic Disease Epidemiology
  • Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases
  • Health Informatics

The M.S. in addition to the Ph.D. are offered through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. M.S. program length varies between departments and doctoral candidates usually receive their degree within five years, two or three of which are in residence.

Yale is a research-oriented institution. Research is emphasized in the teaching program and culminates in the master’s thesis, capstone course, or doctoral dissertation. Faculty advisers help students with all aspects of their programs. A school-wide M.P.H. core curriculum, combined with divisional requirements, electives, and field experiences, promotes employment flexibility. M.P.H. graduates, aided by an active career services office, secure a wide array of positions in the health field. Doctoral students usually choose academic careers, though a number are employed in research settings.

Applications for the M.P.H. program are submitted through SOPHAS.org while M.S. and PhD. applications are submitted through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences application. Both have deadlines of December 15.
