Sharonda Wallace

Sharonda Wallace, PhD, MPH, RDN, LDN
Dean, Master of Public Health Degree Program

Sharonda Wallace, PhD, MPH, RDN, LDN, is Dean of the MPH Degree Program at Chamberlain University’s College of Health Professions. She joined Chamberlain University in 2020, bringing over 25 years of experience as both a healthcare practitioner and educator in the public health field. Prior to joining the staff at Chamberlain, Dr. Wallace held a variety of leadership positions in healthcare, marketing and nutraceutical research. She also served as associate director, director, and dean for academic dietitian programs and public health programs at San Francisco State University, Cal-Poly Pomona and West Coast University. Throughout her career, Dr. Wallace has been awarded research grants in the areas of nutrition, public health and community health education. When she isn’t busy publishing articles and book chapters in these fields, she enjoys volunteering with her son Malkam at the Young Men’s Service League, where she also serves as Philanthropy Grade Level Chair. Dr. Wallace has been a member of several industry boards, both in California and near her current home in the greater Dallas, Texas area. She currently holds memberships in the American Public Health Association, the Texas Public Health Association, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative. Dr. Wallace has an undergraduate degree in Sociology from UCLA and a master’s degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Tulane University. While attending Tulane, she also completed her dietetic internship training to become a Registered Dietitian. Dr. Wallace holds a doctorate degree in Nutrition from Penn State University and completed her post-doctoral training at Columbia University in New York.

Chris Tex
Chris Tex, PhD, MPH
Associate Professor, MPH Degree Program, College of Health Professions

Dr. Chris Tex is an associate professor for the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program at Chamberlain University (CU). Dr. Tex earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio, his MPH degree with a specialization in environmental and occupational health from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio, and his PhD with a specialization in epidemiology from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Tex’s research while obtaining his doctorate focused on clinical laboratory directors’ interpretations and uses of HIV antibody diagnostic tests for confirming HIV infection. In addition, he’s conducted environmental air quality assessments in two city no-smoking restaurants in Northwest Ohio, which led to 2 smoking laws being implemented, as well as publications in the Archives of Environmental Health and the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene. Dr. Tex has also been a Health Educator and Supervisor of a telephonic health coaching organization. He’s also served as a Bioterrorism Emergency Response Coordinator and Health Inspector, whereby coordinating response activities for a city health department, as well as conducting active surveillance on West Nile Virus in animal and human populations within the environment. While working as a birth defects and newborn screening epidemiologist for the Arizona Department of Health Services, Dr. Tex statistically analyzed epidemiological data to produce reports and conference posters to bring more awareness and prevention initiatives to maternal and child health issues. Dr. Tex has taught students at the associate, baccalaureate, and graduate level. He has also served as a Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program Director for a MLT degree program. Since joining CU, Dr. Tex has taught epidemiology and biostatistics courses, as well as actively contribute to 8 academic committees, including the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Case Studies Taskforce. He routinely collaborates with interprofessional teams from Adtalem’s medical, veterinary, public health, social work, and healthcare administration programs to develop case studies that promote Chamberlain Care®. Dr. Tex is currently obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) in One Health from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, one of Adtalem’s institutions. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was planning international internship opportunities to India, Kenya, and Brazil for CU’s MPH students. Presently, Dr. Tex is interested in building additional interprofessional opportunities between Adtalem partners so that we can instill Chamberlain Care® in our MPH students, thereby creating positive change agents around the globe.

Colleen Murray 
Colleen Murray, DrPH, MPH
Associate Professor, MPH Degree Program, College of Health Professions


Dr. Colleen Murray is an Associate Professor for the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program at Chamberlain University. Dr. Murray is a highly trained behavioral researcher and program evaluator with 19 years of experience. Dr. Murray previously served as a senior evaluator and director of research projects for a wide range of federal and non-federal clients focused on reducing unintended pregnancy/STIs among youth and improving health behaviors in schools. She also completed fellowships at both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (pre-doctorate) and Emory University Rollins School of Public Health (post-doctorate). Dr. Murray is experienced in adaptation, implementation, and evaluation of sexual health programs and has worked with community organizations and clinical partners to provide culturally appropriate services to address the needs of vulnerable populations. She has a broad background in public health, with specific training and expertise in maternal and child health and reproductive health. Dr. Murray has provided scientific and management leadership on complex health issues including STIs/HIV, teen pregnancy, contraceptive access and family planning, HPV vaccination, and LGBTQ health. She has contributed to and authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and has presented her work both nationally and internationally. Dr. Murray earned a doctorate in public health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and a MPH and BS from the University of Pittsburgh.

Practicum


At the end of the MPH program, you will have the opportunity to apply what you have learned into practice through a two-part Applied Practice Experience practicum opportunity. During this time you will work with a public health professional of your choice and you will have the opportunity to focus on an area of public health that interests you. This allows you to synthesize and demonstrate what you have learned in a practical setting and to contribute to meaningful change in public health outcomes.

Pioneer Grant


A grant for students pursuing a career in a Public Health related field.

*Register now to start Chamberlain’s Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program for the July 2020 session and receive additional tuition savings. The Pioneer Grant provides eligible students with a 30% savings in tuition pricing, up to $6,930, on MPH coursework at Chamberlain University for the duration of their enrollment.

The grant availability for new students will be evaluated each session.

  • Minimum enrollment of three credit hours per semester

Admission Criteria


Chamberlain University looks for candidates with the following qualifications for admission to the Master of Public Health program:

  • A degree at the bachelor’s level or higher from an institution accredited by either a regional accrediting agency or an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Degrees earned from non-U.S. schools will be considered based on evaluation of transcripts by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.(NACES) approved evaluating agency 
  • A minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or 
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale based on 9 or more semester hours of graduate coursework
