USC's Accounting education has been an integral part of the School of Business since its inception in 1920. According to the U.S. News, USC Leventhal is ranked among the top 5 accounting schools in the country. USC Leventhal offers six types of accounting master degrees: Master of Accounting (MAcc), Master of Accounting with Data Analytics (MAcc D+A), Master of Business Taxation with Data Analytics (MBT D+A), Master of Business Taxation (MBT) Full-time, MBT Part-time, and MBT online. Leventhal provides a state-of-the-art education in a vibrant urban setting close ties with the accounting and business communities and a long-standing tradition of excellence in accounting.

Graduate Accounting Programs:

Master of Accounting (MAcc)

The MAcc program provides students opportunities to apply accounting and business knowledge to cases and situations that develop technical knowledge plus skills in research, analysis, and communication. This graduate degree helps ensure success in public accounting, private industry, auditing, assurance services, advisory services, and consulting.

The Master of Accounting is a full-time, one-year program.

Master of Accounting, Emphasis on Data and Analytics (MAcc D+A)

This program is uniquely tailored to students pursuing careers in the audit profession. It is more technical and audit-focused than the MAcc program with a greater focus in the following:


• Statistics, data warehousing, visualization and data & analytics strategies
• Audit-focused financial statement analysis, audit situational analysis, student interactions, debates and interactions with outside auditors and financial management
• IT control focus
• D&A tools used in certain classes, taught in labs or offline
• Redesigned audit, IT audit, financial reporting fraud analytics and financial statement analysis courses.

Master of Business Taxation (MBT)

The Jennifer and James R. Parks Master of Business Taxation (M.B.T.) program provides in-depth specialization in taxation to prepare the student for a successful career as a tax professional. The program is designed to develop the skills and expertise professionals need to assist individuals and firms trying to cope with myriad tax legislation and regulation at both the federal and local levels.

The Master of Business Taxation is a full-time, one-year program.

Master of Business Taxation, Emphasis on Data and Analytic (MBT D+A)

The practice of tax is becoming increasingly analytic and data driven. The environment demands great thinking about business, financial and taxation issues. It includes sophisticated IT systems and demands leading edge processes to understand and interact with those systems.


The Master of Business Taxation with Data and Analytics (MBT D+A) will deliver a firm foundation in taxation with a focus on Data and Analytics and the enabling of IT capabilities.


Areas of Focus
• Tax research, corporate taxation, accounting methods and multi-jurisdictional taxation
• Data analysis and visualization (using such applications as R, Python, and Tableau)
• Statistical Computing & Data Visualization
• Information Technology
