About

Inspiring Medicine through Human Touch®

The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) is one of nearly 40 colleges of osteopathic medicine in the U.S. and the first osteopathic medical school in the state of Alabama. Our Mission is to provide quality, learner-centered osteopathic education, research and service, while promoting graduate medical education, with emphasis on patient-centered primary care to serve the medically underserved areas of Alabama and the nation. The campus is designed to provide the full student experience with a 110,000-square-feet facility equipped with the latest technology creating a productive learning environment for students. ACOM has a team of more than 80 faculty and staff that represent many academic and professional backgrounds. Most PhD faculty are medical school-trained and  clinical faculty have an array of experiences as practicing physicians, including community-based, hospital-based and military service-based medicine. ACOM delivers a hybrid curriculum model utilizing discipline and system-based clinical presentation approaches in the pre-clinical years. The blended methodologies provide opportunities for engaged learning, formative assessment and deliberate practice of clinical reasoning. These resources combined with an array of support services provide for the success of our students as they pursue a career in medicine. ACOM's third and fourth year clinical curriculum is delivered throughout the state of Alabama, Florida panhandle and beyond at community-based hospitals and clinics utilizing an extensive network of physicians with more than 10 years of osteopathic clinical training experience. The college's inaugural class of 162 students began in August 2013. Upon graduation of our first class in 2017, ACOM was granted seven-year accreditation.
