Robert W. Pereira founded The Middlesex Corporation (Middlesex) in 1972. Through his vision, drive, and commitment to safety, quality, and excellence, the organization, now encompassing numerous companies operating throughout the Northeast and Florida, has become a leader in the heavy/civil and paving industries. Middlesex is currently ranked at #211 in the ENR Top 400 list of contractors.
We are headquartered in Littleton, Massachusetts and have regional offices in West Haven, Connecticut and Orlando, Florida. Additionally, we are prequalified and licensed to work in 14 states along the east coast and Southeastern United States. We design, build, and reconstruct highways, bridges, marine, rail, and transit facilities, and provide midstream gas and electrical transmission/distribution construction services. To meet the needs of today’s challenging and ever-changing construction environment, our team of dedicated professionals employs the most current technologies, state-of-the-art equipment, and modern manufacturing facilities to deliver safe, award-winning projects.

Middlesex Bituminous Inc.
1992
Opened Southeast Division
1998
Acquired Paquette Construction and Asphalt Production in FL. Moved all Southeast operations to Leesburg, FL.
2004
Moved all Southeast operations from Leesburg to Orlando. Constructed new asphalt manufacturing facility in Orlando
2007
Acquired quarry site in Sparta, GA
2007
Secured the largest Joint Venture project in company history - MassDOT Brightman Street Bridge, Fall River, MA - $218M
2011
Secured our largest stand-alone project to date - CTDOT CT Fastrack Hartford, CT - $150M
2012
Secured the first of five “Mega Projects” for MassDOT - Burns Bridge Design-Build, Worcester, MA - $105M
2015
Secured the First CM/GC project - CTDOT Walk Bridge Replacement, Norwalk, CT - $300M
2016
Founded Middlesex University, initiated Learning & Development Program, formed Energy Division, and constructed largest asphalt plant in Southeast US - Orlando, FL
2017
Secured largest joint venture project to date - MBTA Green Line Extension Design-Build, Boston, MA - $1.1B
