About

Messiah University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

Messiah University has a vibrant student body of approximately 3,300 undergraduate and graduate students. Messiah's main campus and Winding Hill facilities are located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, 15 minutes outside of the state capitol, Harrisburg.

Our Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at Messiah University is a new program, and we enrolled our initial cohort of students in August 2019. This full-time professional program consists of 110-credits and is designed to be completed in 8 semesters. With an emphasis on inter-professional education and an interdisciplinary approach to health care, our mission is to graduate entry-level practitioners who are competent in evidence-based practice and who are committed to compassionate, ethical and culturally relevant Christ-centered service and leadership. Our degree prepares students academically to pass the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) on the first attempt. Students who successfully pass this exam can then pursue licensure in the state in which they intend to practice.

Among the highlights of our program is the fact that students will have access to the latest and most advanced instructional technology available at Winding Hill, Messiah’s educational facility, located a few miles from our main campus in Mechanicsburg, PA. This state-of-the-art facility features:

  • several excellent practice labs for students to learn about management of clients commonly seen in physical therapy
  • a physical therapy clinic for student and faculty practice
  • two dedicated research labs to implement projects with the potential of national-level presentations
  • an apartment with universal design for activities of daily living
  • a fully equipped lab that simulates a pediatric clinic with sensory integration equipment
  • climbing wall, indoor play gym and other therapeutic equipment

Currently, the DPT Program at Messiah University has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status. You can learn more about the accreditation process here.

Regarding admission, students who wish to apply to the DPT Program will complete and submit their application in PTCAS. You can view our admission requirements here, under the “How to Apply” tab. We do operate on rolling admission (meaning we review applications as they come in and once our class is full, it’s full… So, the sooner you submit everything, the better).

We look forward to working with you!
