About

UCD School of Veterinary Medicine is the sole provider of a veterinary medicine degree programme on the island of Ireland, and is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association, European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education, The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, Australasian Veterinary Boards Council and The Veterinary Council of Ireland.

Students of the veterinary medicine programme benefit from the outstanding facilities of the purpose designed UCD Veterinary Sciences Centre and UCD Veterinary Hospital on the main university campus at Belfield, Dublin. Located on a 132 Ha site 5km south of Dublin’s City Centre, UCD is Ireland’s largest university with over 30,000 students. This is complemented by Lyons Estate Farm where students have practical classes at all stages of the curriculum.

Ireland is a small island with a big reputation – located on the western edge of Europe, it’s a strategic gateway to Europe and one of the most globalised countries in the World. Dublin, the capital, is a lively city, built on hundreds of years of history and culture. Today, Dublin is a truly global city, and its multi-cultural population make it a cosmopolitan and vibrant destination. Dublin frequently ranks highly in the QS Best Student Cities, described as a great location for those whose ‘idea of a perfect student city involves combining top-class study facilities and historic surroundings with a cracking social scene and famously friendly locals.’

UCD is Ireland’s global university, and its most popular university for international students – 30% of international students coming to Ireland choose UCD. We have 139 nationalities within the student body, with international students accounting for 27% of our overall student numbers, and some 30% of our staff are international. We also have a global network of alumni, with 269,000 alumni across 165 countries.

Our university is one of Europe’s leading research-intensive universities; an environment where undergraduate education, masters and PhD training, innovation and community engagement form a dynamic spectrum of activity. UCD has the most engaged student body in Ireland, and with over 140 clubs and societies on campus, there really is something for everyone to get involved in. Your experience as a vet student at UCD will guarantee lifelong friendships. You can find further information on attending UCD as an international student at http://www.ucd.ie/international
