Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions (Pharmacy, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy)
Innovative Creighton University sets health professional education standards. In 1993, Creighton University became the first university in the nation to establish a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree. In 1999, Creighton started the first Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree. In 2001, Creighton University became the first institution in the country to offer an entry-level, distance pathway Pharmacy program (in addition to our campus pathway, established in 1905). Students at Creighton University are not only training to become expert professionals in their fields, but are treated as such by one of the largest full-time faculties in the nation (PT with 16; OT with 17; Pharmacy with 60). Beginning with a Professionalism Ceremony at the start of the new academic year, Pharmacy and Health Professions students recites the respective oath or pledge of their profession to both elevate their perspective and remember that patient care is always their number one goal.
Within the classrooms in Creighton’s new 56-milliondollar Hixson-Lied Science Building, students engage in technologically advanced learning with a focus on professionalism, ethical practice and service learning. Outside the classroom, Jesuit values and hands-on experience, become one as each pre-professional engages in community outreach, through a variety of opportunities. Physical Therapy students receive more than 46 weeks of clinical training, eleven weeks more than the national average and in addition, students can become involved in the fully staffed Creighton Pro-bono Physical Therapy Clinic. Occupational Therapy offers a unique specialization opportunity for third-year students allowing them to create their own Professional Rotation. Pharmacy students engage in early practice experiences, serving more than 4,000 school children through Creighton’s Drug and Alcohol Education Program, and in their fourth year choose from over 300 sites for required and elective clinical rotations. Education of the whole person is evident in a Creighton education.
