  • WMU has a 60+ year graduate education history.
  • Each year WMU welcomes over 1,000 new graduate students.
  • Nearly 5,000 graduate students study and conduct research at WMU, representing 21% of WMU's total student body. 
  • Over 100 doctoral degrees are awarded annually.

WMU Points of Pride

  • Carnegie Foundation classifies WMU as one of just 157 public, and 222 public and private, institutions that conduct research at the “higher” or “highest” levels.
  • WMU is one of only 90 U.S. universities able to offer both medical and legal professional education, doing so through two private schools that are formally affiliated with the University.
  • U.S. News & World Report has designated WMU a top national university for 27 consecutive years and has placed it in the top-tier of those universities since 2011.
  • WMU is consistently ranked as a university that is "military friendly" and "Best for Vets". The university's VetSuccess on Campus program is the first VA student success program of its kind in Michigan.
  • INSIGHT Into Diversity has presented its Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award to WMU annually since 2013 in recognition of an “outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.”
  • U.S. Department of State data shows that WMU was among the country’s 10 leading producers of American Fulbright Scholars in 2016-17.
