Sonoran University of Health Sciences (formerly Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences) has a rich history of sending naturopathic physicians and nutritionists into the world with not just a knowledge of naturopathic medicine and nutrition but a rich experience in its healing effects. We train and prepare graduates for the future of medicine and health care. Since day one, we have been an innovator in the field of naturopathic medicine and nutrition, and we strive to advance the profession and opportunities for every graduate.
As a student, you’ll have the opportunity to learn in the classroom, clinic environment and online, as well as in student clubs, activities and study groups. At Sonoran University, we are united in a calling to embrace the natural world, and the supportive community is here to fuel your success.
Here are just a few of the things that make Sonoran University special:
Commitment to student success
Sonoran University has a variety of student learning resources so that you feel fully supported as a student. In our innovative curriculum, your clinical experience begins on the first day of class. We provide students with the broadest education and the most clinical experience. The Sonoran University model is interactive and built upon proven, effective methods such as team-based learning, a body-systems approach for teaching basic sciences, and early clinical experiences. Success after graduation
As the first ND school to have a full-time career services director, we are committed to helping students every step of the way, from networking and shadowing opportunities to help with creating a business plan and applying for a residency. Oftentimes, up to 80% of our students have a job lined before they even graduate! Learn More
Integrative environment
Sonoran University prides itself on being the first ND school to have an integrated regenerative medicine center, with an MD on staff, as well as NDs and acupuncturists, who work together as a team to treat the whole person. Physicians use the most cutting-edge techniques including prolotherapy, PRP, and stem cells, and students can truly experience the full spectrum of all the possibilities that naturopathic medicine has to offer. Strong commitment to our naturopathic principles
While we recognize that our graduates have the freedom to choose what kind of practice they wish to have, from focusing on nature cure to cutting-edge therapies, we also stay true to our roots and incorporate naturopathic principles in all we do. Learn More
Community clinics and outreach
Sonoran University students have the opportunity to see a wide variety of clinic settings, from our busy medical centers to ND offices throughout the Phoenix area. Students also enjoy working in our community clinics and outreach settings, which serve thousands of medically-underserved children and families. Additionally, student organizations like Naturopaths without Borders give our students lots of opportunities to help underserved communities in Arizona and abroad. Learn More

A truly naturopathic experience
We know the importance of educating our students and patients about having a high quality of life, one where they are able to take their health into their own hands. For our students, we built our LEED Platinum Certified Community Commons with you in mind. It is here that you can study in a comfortable, sunlight atmosphere. You can also take a break to utilize the Fitness Center, Yoga Studio, or Healthy Cafe. Learn More
Close-knit community
With ~350 on-campus students, all of whom are doing the ND program, we are an intimate campus with strong sense of community. Each incoming student is paired with a student mentor to help get them settled as they begin their med school journey. Learn More
Arizona weather and lifestyle
Arizona is known for its sunny, warm weather, which allows students to get outside and enjoy nearby hiking and outdoor activities in the Phoenix area. And the beautiful mountains, ponderosa pine trees, and cooler weather in Sedona and Flagstaff are just 2 hours away! Even though Phoenix is a large metro area (with plenty of cultural options to choose from), the cost of living is quite low compared to other large cities.
