About

Welcome to the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill!

Our community of students, faculty, and staff is deeply committed to the shared mission of realizing equity of educational access and outcomes for all learners in our increasingly diverse communities—locally, statewide, nationally, and globally.

We challenge ourselves to address the most difficult and complex educational questions and issues across the P–20 continuum through cutting-edge research, development, and engagement. We approach our scholarship with a determination to inform current educational practices, programs, and policies. We strive to imagine better futures, and work toward a society where a great and transformative public education is accessible to all—lifelong, lifewide; and where well-being, health, and prosperity are within everyone’s reach.

Our professional preparation programs educate teachers, principals, and school psychologists and counselors of the highest caliber. Our graduate programs prepare researchers and professionals who join the ranks of peer research universities and various educational enterprises. Equipped to succeed in their professions, our graduates emerge as leaders in their institutions and communities, and mindfully contribute toward continually improving and transforming them.

We are the proud bearers of a long tradition of innovation and success, a tradition that is a source of strength. Now more than 130 years young, ours is the fourth oldest professional school of the nation’s first public university. We are proud to offer the following master's programs:

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
MA in Educational Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (MEITE)
Master of Education for Experienced Teachers (MEDX)
Master of Education in School Counseling
Master of School Administration (M.S.A.)

We warmly invite you to connect with the School of Education at Carolina and to consider joining our community. The School of Education offers a broad range of degrees and programs for undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate students. Our academic programs embrace the promise of every child as we prepare students to become outstanding leaders and scholars in education.
