Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine

Are you the kind of person who wants to put the pill in the bottle, or would you rather create the pill? 

The Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine Program at Northeast Ohio Medical University prepares students for a future of innovation.  As an MS or PhD student in the Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine Program you will learn about the discovery, development, delivery, and pharmacologic and toxicologic evaluation of drug entities in an environment of translational research.

About Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine: 

Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine is a biomedical science discipline that advances the quality of healthcare through innovation in the therapeutic treatment of illness, including collaboration and dynamic research in drug discovery, development, formulation, delivery, pharmacology, toxicology, and regulation for the benefit of the public health. 

The Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) integrated pharmaceutical medicine degree program’s main objective is to educate and develop first-rate scholars and independent investigators. Graduates of this program will have a unique perspective on the connection between pharmaceutical sciences and medical disciplines, especially with regard to disease mechanisms and targets for therapeutic interventions.

This program provides students with an excellent Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine graduate education at the master’s degree and doctoral degree levels, imbuing them with advanced skills and the necessary qualifications to succeed as a researcher in academia, biotechnology, or industry, while benefiting from NEOMED’s excellent research environment and infrastructure. 

Degree Offerings:

Master of Science (M.S.)

The M.S. degree in Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine requires a total of 45 credit hours: 25 dedicated to didactic coursework, 10 for research hours, and 10 credit hours of thesis work.  The capstone experience of the M.S. is a written thesis and thesis defense.  

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

The Ph.D. in Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine requires a total of 90 credit hours.  All doctoral student complete 45 hours of didactic study, 30 hours of research, and 15 hours of dissertation work, culminating in a written dissertation and dissertation defense. 

M.D. – Ph.D. or Pharm.D. – Ph.D.

The Integrated Pharmaceutical Medicine program at NEOMED provides an opportunity for NEOMED medical and pharmacy students to attain a PhD degree through the College of Graduate Studies.  Students in the double degree program are able to meet all of the requirements of both programs in a shorter time frame than if they were to complete the degrees in sequence.
