Van Andel Institute Graduate School's Ph.D in Molecular and Cellular Biology program transforms talented and ambitious graduate students into capable problem solvers in frontier fields. We are a small graduate school that offers one PhD program in molecular and cell biology located in the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, MI (3 hours from Chicago, 2 hours from Detroit). We are a small accredited program in an independent research institute that is designed for hands-on learners interested in using the latest techniques across fields and disease areas, including epigenetics, neurodegenerative disease, metabolism and nutritional programming, structural biology and cancer. Our small cohorts of 12-15 students are excellent learning opportunities especially for students looking for a tight knit collaborative learning environment. All of our students are fully funded through their entire PhD program with a generous stipend of $43,000 annually, heath/dental/vision insurance, a brand new laptop and $2500 travel allowance for scientific events. We sponsor international students on the F-1 visa.
MD-PhD (dual-degree) Programs: Van Andel Institute Graduate School if proud to partner with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine to develop tomorrow's physician-scientists through joint M.D./Ph.D. programs.
Undergraduate Internships: The Summer Internship Programs are designed to provide undergraduate college students opportunities to be mentored by professionals in their chosen research field, to become familiar with the use of state-of-the-art scientific equipment and technology, and to learn valuable interpersonal and presentation skills. The goal of these programs is to expose aspiring researchers and clinicians to exciting advances in biomedical sciences that will help define their career paths.
