The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) is a unique partnership between the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), institutions that are leading the fight against cancer and other major diseases that impact human health and quality of life. GSBS is located in the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest concentration of hospitals and biomedical education and research facilities.
The curriculum is designed to provide students with a rigorous exposure to critical thinking strategies, area-specific scientific skills and career development initiatives. The curriculum, together with an emphasis on research training and scientific productivity, is designed to position our students for an outstanding and successful career in the biomedical sciences.
Degrees/Programs Overview
Ph.D. students are admitted directly to the Graduate School through an umbrella admissions process, allowing students flexibility and opportunities to conduct research in the following areas:
M.S. degrees in Genetic Counseling, Medical Physics and Biomedical Sciences.
M.D./Ph.D. program in collaboration with the McGovern Medical School.
Deadlines
Applications are available beginning September 1. The final deadline for all application materials to be submitted for the PhD program is January 4, 2019. Early applications are encouraged.
The deadline for materials to be submitted for the MS programs in Genetic Counseling and Medical Physics is January 4, 2019.
The deadline to apply for the MS program in Biomedical Sciences is April 1, 2019.
Financial Information
Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) valued at approximately $45,000 are provided to all Ph.D. students. Funding is guaranteed for the duration of study and includes:
