Chancellor’s Diversity Council
The UMKC Chancellor’s Diversity Council was established in September 2011 to facilitate the realization of UMKC’s strategic vision and goals, specifically, Goal Five of the Campus Strategic Plan: Embrace Diversity.
As an urban research university, UMKC values diversity as central to our mission. To develop the strategic plan, the Council – which includes various faculty, staff, students and community members – held a series of public forums on campus and in the community and met with groups large and small across campus. The Council took the input from those forums and discussions and developed the current Diversity Strategic Plan for the university.
UMKC’s Strategic Goal #5:
Embrace Diversity - Celebrate diversity in all aspects of university life, creating inclusive environments, culturally competent citizens, and globally-oriented curricula and programs.
Our Guiding Vision:
Diversity is an important driver of excellence in higher education. Diversity and inclusion strategies also impact UMKC’s enrollment, retention and graduation goals and strategies for a diverse student and faculty body.
UMKC’s Division of Diversity & Inclusion Leads an organization wide approach to promote diversity and inclusion as a critical factor in student, staff and faculty success.
