Biomedical Research, PhD and MS (thesis)

Students in the Biomedical Research PhD and MS (thesis) program take an interdisciplinary approach to, and develop a broad basis in, biomedical research. Accepted PhD students receive a yearly stipend of $25,000, tuition remission and health insurance. Accepted MS students have the opportunity to enhance their academic rigor and research foundation to become ideal candidates for the Biomedical Research PhD program. To learn more, visit Graduate Educations Programs.

Clinical and Translational Science, MS

The cross-disciplinary method in the Clinical and Translational Science, MS program provides students with strong research and leadership skills and prepares them to work in close partnership with researchers, clinicians, patients,  and others who provide quality health care. They develop the capabilities to manage all aspects of clinical trials for new drugs and procedures with an emphasis on the needs of rural regions in West Virginia. Students choose from one of three areas of emphasis: Clinical Trials, Clinical Research (Health-Related Professional School preparation), Clinical Informatics. To learn more, visit Clinical and Translational Science, MS.

Biomedical Research, MS (non-thesis) with Medical Sciences and Research Emphasis

This is a rigorous, two-year, non-thesis degree that offers the ideal option for students who want to strengthen their academic record and enhance their science foundation prior to medical or other health-related professional schools. It is specifically designed to build a compelling application, with significant research exploration, to increase the chance of acceptance for medical school. To learn more, visit Biomedical Research, MS with Medical Sciences and Research Emphasis.

Summer Research Internship for Undergraduate Minority Students (SRIMS)

Selected students spend nine weeks conducting graduate-level research in addition to attending presentations on topics related to research and graduate education. Stipend, housing, meals, and travel assistance are provided.  Ideal applicants should be a US citizen and identify as an underrepresented minority in the sciences. To learn more, visit Summer Research Internship for Undergraduate Minority Students.

Combine Medical Degree, MD and Biomedical Research, PhD (MD/PhD)

Students will have a unique perspective on the basic science and clinical science behind disease in the combined MD/PhD program. Set up in a 2-3-2 sequence, students complete the first two years of medical school while participating in research lab rotations. Then for three to four years, students focus on PhD coursework and research. Once those requirements are successfully completed, the student finishes with the final two years of medical school. Accepted students receive a yearly stipend of (currently) $25,000 and tuition waiver. To learn more, visit MD/PhD.

Combined Biological Science, BS and Biomedical Research, PhD (BS/PhD)

New this year, Marshall University has created an accelerated BS/PhD program that allows students to earn both degrees in seven years, rather than the traditional eight to nine years it takes to complete them separately. Students will conduct paid, hands-on research with biomedical research faculty during summer breaks. Additionally, in the PhD portion, students will receive a yearly stipend of $25,000, tuition remission and health insurance. To learn more, visit BS/PhD.
