Each day, DNA samples, tissue, blood, semen and hair follicle samples arrive at Neogen GeneSeek operations in Lincoln, Nebraska from all over the world. This starts a journey that transforms animal and plant cells into valuable data for breeding, management, production and marketing decisions.
Sample are processed through either our in-house Vet Diagnostics lab, or through our Processing & DNA Extractions labs. Their are several methods that are used to detect variations in DNA. These instruments are used in various segments of the genotyping industry. Some are traditional techniques that are still useful for specific applications. Others are new platforms using cutting-edge sequencing technology that has transformed the industry. At this stage in the process, DNA samples have been individually identified, purified, amplified and placed onto test devices that are sensitive at the molecular level. These genotyped markers are then converted into computer data. The raw genotyped data is then put into a report that allows our customers to sort and manage their animals and plants. Our customers are typically breed associations (these are just a few), but we also work closely with the individual and even Universities and Colleges assisting with research projects.
