About

Equipping Transformational Leaders for the Global Ministry of Jesus Christ!!

Founded in 1998, The John Leland Center for Theological Studies is named for the influential 18th century Virginia Baptist leader, John Leland, who is noteworthy for his opposition to slavery, his defense of freedom of the Gospel, and his advocacy in the cause of religious liberty.

The Leland Center is a broadly evangelical, pan-Baptist institution whose students and faculty have ties to a wide array of denominations and churches. Leland was fully accredited to award its masters degrees by the Association of Theological Schools in 2006. Leland is also a member of the prestigious Washington Theological Consortium. Leland Center is approved to offer education to Military Veterans who have Post 9/11 benefits.

Leland’s cutting-edge curriculum and international faculty are well suited for today’s multi-cultural environment. Leland boasts one of the most ethnically and racially diverse student bodies among area seminaries, united to advance the Kingdom. Leland places great value on teacher/practitioners who are well qualified academically but also serve as pastors, educators, and leaders in local churches and ministries. This emphasis causes Leland to be ever mindful of the demands of local ministry and to maintain a consistent relationship with partner churches.

Leland strives to keep costs low and scholarships accessible while maintaining high academic standards. As the most affordable accredited seminary in the area, Leland provides a great value for students. Our main campus is located in Arlington, Virginia and we have an extension site in Newport News, Virginia. Graduate Certificate courses are also offered in Southwest, Virginia.
