VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY

Promote mental and emotional health as a counseling and psychology professional. Valparaiso University's CACREP-accredited clinical mental health counseling and NASP-approved school psychology programs prepare you for rewarding careers in a variety of settings, including hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions.

For more than 50 years, Valpo faculty have offered programs at the graduate level that prepare students to succeed in their respective industries. Our psychology programs offer a range of practical and theoretical courses that integrate knowledge and research with hands-on, flexible learning. You will work closely with an advisor to choose a path within the program that best meets your professional and career goals. You'll collaborate with your student cohort, receive individual attention from faculty, and gain internship experience to develop the skills necessary to become a leader in the field of psychology.

PSYCHOLOGY DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE OPTIONS

  1. Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.A. CMHC 60 credits)
  2. Master of Education/Education Specialist in School Psychology (M.Ed./E.Ds SPSY 68 credits)
  3. Juris Doctorate/Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (J.D. 90 credits | M.A. CMHC 60 credits)
  4. Juris Doctorate/Master of Arts in Psychology (J.D. 90 credits | M.A. Psychology 30 credits)
  5. Certificate in Licensed Clinical Addictions Counseling (LCAC 18 credits)
ADMISSION CHECKLIST
  1. Valparaiso University Graduate Application (online)
  2. Certified bachelor's degree transcript, plus transcript for all other degrees earned and/or coursework completed
  3. Two letter of recommendation
  4. A reflective essay indicating your anticipated career goals and reasons for undertaking graduate study
  5. Application fee: $30.00 (waived for attending today's virtual fair)
  6. No GRE is required

THE VALUE OF A VALPO GRADUATE DEGREE

Graduate tuition for the 2017-2018 academic year is surprisingly affordable at $630 per credit. All of the programs with the exception of LCAC are over 60 credits and can be completed full time or part time. Both clinical mental health counseling and school psychology offer scholarships and research assistantships. Admitted students are also eligible for $1,500-3,500 one-time merit-based scholarship.
